In recent years, a large number of offshore structures have been under construction worldwide. Driven piles have been generally used as the underlying supporting structures of these structures because of their satisfactory bearing capacity, lightweight and workability.
YJACK Technology and their distributor partners are the specialists to propose, supply, install, test and analyze bi-directional pile load tests. This type of Maintained Load Test (MLT) has been successfully done on driven piles in a marine environment.
Among the most difficult to perform this test, is on an offshore or open ended steel pipe pile. This is now possible with YJACK’s newest and latest development into this area. Dubbed the Type O , it carries the same concepts and engineering as the Type C (Bi-Directional YJACK for driven piles) to bring this testing methodology to steel pipe piles to reduce costs, but maintain quality and accuracy.
The YJACK assembly location will ideally be located at the middle of total pile capacity. The main aim of positioning the assembly will be to “equalize” the bi-directional forces in the pile so that failure in one direction does not occur prematurely. For measurement of YJACK pressure, the loading is derived by applying the calibration factor of the hydraulic jack to the pressure. This is possible with our testing and calibration being done in house.
The concepts and execution of Bi-Directional Testing on steel pipe piles are the same as on other types of piles, such as Bored Piles or Driven Piles and merely needed to be adapted for use in Pipe Piles. In terms of quality aspect, YJACK conform all the driven piles to ASTM standards. The quality is consistent from the first pile to the last and can be seen and verified prior to installation.
